Many top artists and superstars in country music owe a big boost to their careers because George Strait selected them to open for him or to play on his George Strait Festival Tours. Artists like the Dixie Chicks, Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw saw their careers skyrocket after touring with George. While you scan the list of those artists who opened for George over the years, here's a soundbyte from the 1990 CMA Awards where Mary Chapin Carpenter sang, "You don't know me, I'm your opening act" to point out the pitfalls of an artist opening for a big star...surely she never opened for George since every artist who opened for him raves about what a thrill and privilege it is for them to tour with him.
